More remastered and re-imagined titles are on the way from Activision, according to new information shared during the company’s 2019 financial results call. With successful launches of remastered classics like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, the Spyro Reignited Trilogy, and Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, it only makes sense that Activision would continue to draw from their catalog of available series to continue their success.
These remastered offerings create a unique opportunity to not only draw in longtime fans but to also present first-time and would-be players with a perfect point of entry into these established series. On top of that, Activision hasn’t hesitated to capitalize on the success of games like Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, creating paid downloadable content and add-ons to support the game post-launch – a move which irked some fans who felt betrayed by the company’s initial promise to release the retro racer without microtransactions.
According to information shared by financial analyst Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, Activision has now confirmed that several remastered and re-imagined classics are being prepared, with announcements on the way for later in 2020. Additionally, the company announced that a new Call of Duty title is on the way with a planned release for Q4 2020, and detailed a partnership with mobile developer King, which could indicate the impending arrival of mobile versions of some of its classic franchises – possibly even Crash Bandicoot.
Rumors of revitalized Activision classics like the first two entries in the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater series and a remastered release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 have been swirling for some time, which might indicate which classic titles fans can look forward to when the full announcements are made later this year. The last entry released in the Tony Hawk series, 2015’s Tony Hawk Pro Skater 5, was met with a lukewarm reception, failing to garner the praise of previous entries in the core Pro Skater lineup.
The revealed revival of classic titles could be just what fans are hoping for, though many players have been wondering whether new entries in classic series like Spyro and Crash could be on the way at some point down the road. However, with no confirmation from Activision, any such hopes for new outings are little more than speculation-fueled fantasy at this point. Players will have to wait until the official reveals of these in-development refreshes for more details, but until then, there’s always time for a few more laps in CTR.
