Abu Salem a.k.a Abdul Qayoom Ansari, alongside his partners Parvez Alam and Sameera Jumani, had applied for a visa for the sake of Aqeel Ahmed Azmi at the Lucknow identification office in 1993.
Salem appended manufactured records of phony name and address with the application and got visa, which he later utilized.

After examination concerning the case, the CBI had recorded a charge-sheet. Taking cognisance of this, the court had outlined charges against Salem on June 5, 2009.
Salem was condemned to life by a TADA court in 2015 in the wake of viewing him to be blameworthy in the 1995 homicide of manufacturer Pradeep Jain.
